UD-DUT with the Model of Lecturers supporting Students in academic development

22/07/2025

Recently, member universities and affiliated training units of the University of Danang (UD) have adopted innovative and flexible methods to accompany and support students in their academic pursuits and research. One such model, implemented by University of Science and Technology (UD - DUT) involves lecturers sharing academic experience, scientific research skills, and connecting students with scholarship information and job opportunities.

According to Dr. Do Viet Hai, Director of the Center for Student Support and Corporate Relations, the model was initiated by a group of young lecturers, all alumni of UD - DUT : Dr. Do Viet Hai, Dr. Do Quang Trung, Dr. Hoang Phuong Tung, and Dr. Nguyen Phuoc Quy Duy.

When these lecturers were still PhD students in the US and Australia, they pondered the idea of 'returning to contribute to their homeland and the university, with a desire to support the next generation of students in striving for opportunities to 'reach out to the world with their own aspirations and capabilities.

From this idea, the group formed the CERT (Civil Engineering Research and Training) model. This model provides support activities for students right from their first year of university, actively helping them develop foreign language skills, scientific research capabilities, and prepare for postgraduate study abroad scholarships and international integration opportunities.

Dr. Do Viet Hai shared the tangible outcomes from the CERT model, which include: 02 PhD scholarships (in the USA and Australia); 05Master's scholarships (in Japan and South Korea); 15 students participating in short-term academic exchange programs (in South Korea and Japan).

Furthermore, the scientific research results from students connected with CERT's guidance and support are notable: 02 internationally published articles (WoS/Scopus); 02 articles presented at international conferences.

Many graduates from UD- DUT who received introductions, shared information, and gained experience through CERT now hold stable positions at reputable domestic and international corporations and enterprises.

One prime example of a student who benefited from CERT is Nguyen Van Tien, an alumni of the Faculty of Bridge and Road Construction. He received a full Master's scholarship in South Korea and published 8 ISI articles during his academic journey. He has since returned to Vietnam and established a successful career at a construction enterprise.

CERT's lecturers have inspired and practically supported students through very specific actions such as: Supporting and connecting students with English language scholarship (aimed at students who are hesitant due to a weak foreign language foundation); Organizing student scientific research groups(encouraging students right from their first year); Sharing experiences to help students proactively form their personal development roadmap (orienting long-term goals); Expanding connections with alumni who are now lecturers to further motivate the next generation of students.
