The University of Danang - University of Technology and Education - UD hosted the 16th National Conference on Fundamental and Applied Information Technology Research

From September 28 to September 29, The University of Danang - University of Technology and Education (UD-UTE) hosted the 16th National Conference on Fundamental and Applied Information Technology Research (FAIR-2023) with the theme: "Data Science in Digital Transformation".

The conference was organized by the Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations, Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology in collaboration with UD-UTE.

The event gathered more than 200 delegates from scientific agencies, research institutes and universities providing training and research in Information Technology fields and majors nationwide.

Attending the opening of the Conference (morning of September 28) was Prof.Dr.Sc. Dang Vu Minh - Former President of Vietnam Academy of Science and Technology, Honorary President of Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of The University of Danang (UD); Prof.Dr. Vu Duc Thi - Vietnam National University in Hanoi - Head of Organizing Committee; Prof.Dr. Nguyen Thanh Thuy - Chair of the Council of Professors of Information Technology field: Dr. Nguyen Quang Thanh - Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Da Nang city; Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Cao Tho – Rector of UD-UTE; leadership representatives of UD’s member universities and affiliated units, and scientists, experts, lecturers, graduate students and students.

According to Prof.Dr. Vu Duc Thi, Head of the Conference Organizing Committee, said that the FAIR Conference was a prestigious and traditional scientific event (first held in 2002) to evaluate the state of basic research, development and application of Information Technology in Vietnam; discuss issues of scientific and practical significance on domestic and international Information Technology development, thereby providing proposals, directions and solutions to promote research and development in the coming time.

Speaking at the Conference, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Cao Tho – Rector of UD-UTE shared the honor of hosting and respectfully welcomed scientists, experts, delegates from many organizations, universities, institutes, businesses and partners in the whole country attended in the beautiful and hospitable coastal Da Nang city.

In order to meet social needs, connect and serve the development of key industries, UD-UTE has established the Department of Digital Technology to train and research majors in digital technology, Information Technology, interdisciplinary connection and integration, collaborating with other engineering and technology training faculties/ disciplines to provide high quality human resources for localities and businesses.

UD-UTE's Digital Transformation Project (period 2022-2025) is a focus to promote Information Technology application and innovate university administration on the basis of effective, safe and friendly digital transformation.

UT-UTE’ wishes and hopes that FAIR-2023 would be an opportunity to strengthen the connection of training, research, and Information Technology application networks between agencies, organizations, universities and institutes in the country and abroad, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Cao Tho shared.

At the Plenary Session, delegates listened to 04 scientific reports, discussed, announced and shared new information and research results with scientific and practical significance, including scientific reports of Prof.Dr.Sc. Le Thanh Nhan – Director of The University of Danang – Danang International Institute of Technology (UD-DNIIT) on using AI for applied chemical calibration process in the FADOTO State-level Project.

The Organizing Committee reviewed and selected 96 articles and scientific reports out of a total of 155 articles submitted from authors/ author groups of nearly 100 universities and research institutes nationwide to report and discuss directly in 06 subcommittees: (1) Artificial intelligence and applications; (2) Data Science; (3) Information system; (4) Image Processing and Computer Vision; (5) Natural language processing; (6) Network and Computer Engineering.

The success of the FAIR-2023 Conference not only affirmed the role and academic reputation of the UD-UTE as the core unit hosting the organization, but also provided opportunities to strengthen and expand the research network, training human resources to promote Information Technology application and digital transformation for the central region as well as the whole country, including Da Nang city with many investors and a growing Information Technology business community.
