The University of Danang – University of Science and Education developed a Tourism Program integrating Community Education at the World Biosphere Reserve of Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An

On December 19, 2024, The University of Danang - University of Science and Education (UD-UED) in collaboration with the Management Board of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve and the Hoi An Women's Union organized the "Role and position of the university, community and stakeholders in building and developing the Community Learning Tourism Program - Educational Tourism" Workshop.

This was an event within the framework of the Project "Developing sustainable community livelihood models combined with ecotourism to promote socio-economic development and contribute to the protection of biodiversity and ecosystems in the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve" (VNM/UNDP/2022/05).

According to Assoc.Prof.Dr. Vo Van Minh - Rector of UD-UED, to preserve and promote the sustainable values of the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve, in addition to the role of all levels, sectors, domestic and foreign organizations and local authorities, the community is the core part, actively contributing, participating in protecting and preserving natural resources, cultural history; as well as benefiting and spreading, especially when there is participation and cooperation of intellectuals from universities where UD-UED has strengths to accompany and build a Tourism Program combined with Community Education.

Representatives of the leaders of UD-UED hope that through the Workshop, the forum will create opportunities for stakeholders to identify challenges, propose solutions, and give advice on developing community tourism associated with education for sustainable development.
According to the local representative, with the support of domestic and international organizations, especially the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Hoi An in general and the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve in particular, the active participation, demonstrating the role and social responsibility of the UD-UED will create motivation, connect multidisciplinary knowledge and form sustainable development projects and programs to effectively exploit the natural, cultural and social values of Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An.

At the Workshop, delegates listened to presentations and discussions focusing on the main topics such as: (1) The process of building and developing community learning tourism; (2) Implementation results and orientations, solutions to connect community tourism in the Biosphere Reserve with the regional tourism network; (3) The role of universities in creating community education models, initial results and lessons learned, orientations, policies and human resource development; (4) Sharing of local communities receiving students for internships, study tours, field school, contributing to the development of the Tourism Program associated with community education.

The Workshop proposed and clarified the contribution role of related entities, in which educational institutions such as UD-UED play the core role in participating in building educational programs, developing human resources suitable to local realities; introducing scientists, experts, and lecturers to join; organizing seminars and workshops to share and update knowledge, perfecting the program...

Contribution to the conservation, preservation and promotion of sustainable natural, cultural and social values at the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve
The Biosphere Reserve Management Board and local authorities create conditions for lecturers and students to visit, practice, and learn about reality; provide data, research and education needs; coordinate the implementation of activities and share knowledge and information about tourism and local cultural identity with the community and students.
Tourism service units actively connect, develop new products to serve the community, promote and improve service quality, contributing to creating momentum for the development of tourism models combined with education in the Cu Lao Cham - Hoi An World Biosphere Reserve.
