On April 4, 2025, Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son - Vice President of the University of Danang (UD) – represented UD’s leadership in attending the Southern Regional session of the International Academic Partnership Program (IAPP), where 15 Vietnamese universities met and exchanged cooperation opportunities with a group of 21 leading universities from the United States.

According to the organizers, the program was held by the U.S. Mission in Vietnam in coordination with the Ministry of Education and Training and the Institute of International Education (IIE), marking the 30th anniversary of Vietnam–U.S. diplomatic relations.

The program gathered over 40 leaders and administrators from 21 leading U.S. universities to visit, work, and explore collaboration opportunities with Vietnamese universities, including the UD. Notable U.S. institutions included Stanford University; University of Massachusetts Amherst; University of Connecticut; University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign; Washington University in St. Louis; University of Alabama; Ohio University; University of Vermont; Towson University; University of Wyoming; University of Kentucky; Colorado State University; Oregon State University; Duke University; North Carolina A&T State University; Oklahoma State University…

According to the UD’s leader, international integration and cooperation are key pillars in the process of higher education internationalization. In recent years, the UD has been one of the top three Vietnamese universities supported by both governments to implement the Partnership for Higher Education Reform (PHER) project, which enhances university governance innovation, educational quality, and scientific research for sustainable development.

Participating in the IAPP offers the UD the opportunity to strengthen ties, understand partner needs, and learn from experience to build strategic partnerships with prestigious U.S. universities in advanced technological fields such as semiconductors, artificial intelligence, automation, biotechnology, advanced materials, green energy, healthcare, education, Southeast Asian studies, and Vietnamese language studies.

In recent years, member universities of the UD have also pioneered in launching new programs in semiconductors, AI, automation, and financial technology based on STEM education foundations. The experience of U.S. partners can be applied especially in inspiring high school students. This is also a core focus for the UD in actively promoting digital and green transformation and the application of Industry 4.0 technologies in education and research.

According to U.S. Ambassador to Vietnam Marc E. Knapper, the United States highly values Vietnam’s development strategies, especially in education, training, science, technology, and innovation, which helps improve human resource quality and deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the U.S.

Through IAPP, the UD and universities from both countries proposed that the U.S. and Vietnamese governments continue to support and direct efforts to strengthen educational ties, focusing on practical collaboration programs, especially student and faculty exchanges, international joint training, and joint research projects.
