The seminar on "Application of BIM technology for digital transformation in the Construction industry in Da Nang City"

On the afternoon of September 21, 2024, the University of Danang – University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) organized the seminar on "Application of BIM technology for digital transformation in the Construction industry in Da Nang City". This seminar was in the process of implementing a city-level research project on "Research to promote the application of BIM technology for digital transformation in the Construction industry in Da Nang city" chaired by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Duc. This seminar also was under the framework of the development goal of UD as well as the purpose of Digital Move project which has been deployed at UD.

Overview of the seminar

Attending the seminar were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Duc – Interim Director, Department of Science and International Cooperation - UD, Leader of the Project; Dr. Ngo Ngoc Tri - Deputy Dean, in charge of the Project Management Faculty; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Anh Tuan - Dean, Faculty of Architecture; Dr. Cao Van Lam - Dean of Faculty of Road and Bridge Construction; along with representatives of leaders of departments, businesses, lecturers, and more than 100 participants who were graduates and undergraduates from the Construction major.

The Building Information Modeling model is a tool to support capital construction investment more effectively. BIM is a tool that helps build construction models on computer models before deploying in the field to limit inadequacies that may be encountered during the construction process. When the project is completed, there will be a computer model that has all the information of the project similar to the actual project, supporting operation and exploitation after the project is completed and put into operation.

Speaking at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Duc - Project leader said that the increasing development and innovation in Da Nang, poses many new challenges for the Construction industry. BIM opens up a range of opportunities for project management, resource optimization, improving construction quality and increasing efficiency. However, along with those opportunities, we face challenges of realization, training, and industry transformation. Recognizing those opportunities and challenges, promoting the application of BIM digital technology in construction has received great attention from the city and departments.

 The conference was organized to share applications of BIM technology models in construction projects as well as create conditions for experts, scientists, lecturers, practitioners, and students to learn, share, and exchange ideas, building a common understanding of how BIM can promote sustainable and effective development in the construction industry.

After the sharing by the reporters, the participants had a lively discussion about the advantages as well as the difficulties of applying the BIM technology model. At the same time, training personnel on this technology and policies to retain talents is a problem that needs to be solved by businesses and units using human resources in this field.

The conference not only shared useful knowledge but also created an environment for participants to meet and share experiences and good practices about this model. Hopefully, the seminar will help open up many new opportunities and be an important step in promoting the development of the Construction industry in Da Nang.
