Recently, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son-Vice President of the University of Danang (UD) together with senior leaders of related Departments of UD attended a webinar on building a framework project of three Vietnamese universities (Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh city and UD) supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID).

The seminar’s attendees were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Vu Hai Quan – President of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hoang Hai - Vice President of Vietnam National University, Hanoi; Ms. Nguyen Phuong Thao - Expert of USAID and Ms. Vo Kieu Dung - Senior Expert of the World Bank, Co-Chair of the project. Attending the online seminar, there were also leaders of UD’s Office of Administrative Affairs and functional Departments of UD.

At the seminar, the senior representative of Vietnam National University, Ho Chi Minh City emphasized that the important purpose of the seminar was to discuss, propose ideas, and orient the contents to build a framework of project to develop the three Vietnamese leading universities.

Leader of Vietnam National University, Hanoi also reported on the contents of 03 components of this project including: (1) Improving the quality of teaching and learning, excelling in scientific research and technology transfer; (2) Improving the governance capacity of higher education; (3) Managing and Deploying the project.

Moreover, UD’s Vice President Le Quang Son highly appreciated the role of partners as well as the project in the development of Vietnamese higher education, in which UD and 02 National Universities had a pioneering mission in the international integration.

This was also a great opportunity for UD and two Vietnamese leading universities to integrate, selectively absorb the experience of advanced universities in the world, especially U.S. universities through the connection of USAID.

With the project framework, there would be a common part of three universities (accounting for 80%) and a separate and specific part (the remaining 20%) to suit with the development of each university. In addition, UD’s Vice President Le Quang Son suggested to focus on university’s governance capacity (based on the university development model); the capacity in teaching and training (with emphasis on postgraduate training) and the need to share a database platform to develop and improve training quality and scientific research.

Experts from USAID and the World Bank highly appreciated the goals and development of Vietnamese universities, including UD. They also advised a lot of useful experiences, thereby providing technical support for Vietnamese universities to effectively participate in the project, and at the same time suggested the three universities to quickly complete the process of consultation, documents designing in order to sign the agreement before June 30.
