Danang city’s leader worked with University of Science and Technology and Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology of the University of Danang: Promoting human resources training in semiconductor chip and AI

24/11/2023

On November 24, Mr. Ho Ky Minh – Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Danang city, had  working sessions at member universities of the University of Danang (UD), including University of Science and Technology (DUT) and Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU), with the focus on promoting human resources training to semiconductor chip technology and artificial intelligence (AI).

Reporting to the city’s leader, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Huu Hieu, Rector of DUT-UD, said that with a rich tradition and nearly 50 years of experience in training high quality human resources in the fields of engineering and technology, DUT-UD has trained and provided technical staff and experts who are currently working for many prestigious domestic and foreign corporations and businesses such as Synopsys (specializing in manufacturing and designing semiconductor chips).

For majors such as AI, Computer Engineering, Electronics and Telecommunications, Embedded Systems and IoT, the university always focuses on the admission quality with many students having good English ability. In addition, the university strengths academia – industry link, thereby receiving companionship and support for equipments and practice software from partners (FPT, Renesas, Keysight,…)

This is a necessary condition for DUT-UD to be ready and have the potential to undertake high-quality human resource training to serve the requirements and opportunities for developing the semiconductor chip industry as well as other high- tech industries in Danang in particular and the country in general.

Appreciating the role, experience and training capacity of DUT-UD, the city’s leader affirmed that the city will support and accompany the university in its new missions, have policies to support and give incentives to students studying high-tech majors, at the same time strengthen connections with the governments and business partners in the world.

At the meeting with VKU-UD, the city’s leader recognized and appreciated the university’s activeness in preparing the necessary conditions such as staff, facilities, training programs. VKU-UD is the first institution which opens the major of semiconductor circuit design engineering.

The university has cooperated with leading Korean partners as well as signed agreements with prestigious domestic partners such as Institute of Information Technology – Vietnam National University Hanoi, Institute of System Integration – Le Quy Don Technical University, Nam Long Technology Investment Group.

Noting the opinions and suggestions of the UD’s member universities, Standing Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Danang city Ho Ky Minh expected that DUT-UD and VKU-UD continue to be proactive in strengthening connections with reputable businesses in the US and South Korea that have extensive experience in training and researching high-tech fields, especially semiconductor chips, microcircuits and AI.

The city will research and propose a number of specific and appropriate policies so that universities and businesses can access and effectively exploit the public facilities and properties in key industries.
