01/04/2025

On the afternoon of March 14, 2025, the University of Danang – Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU) successfully hosted a workshop titled “AI Threats: Cybersecurity Risks and the Fight Against High-Tech Crime.”

The event aimed to raise awareness and equip the younger generation with essential cybersecurity knowledge, especially in the era of rapidly advancing artificial intelligence (AI). While AI brings countless benefits, it also introduces significant cybersecurity challenges. Additionally, this workshop was part of UD’s broader initiative to enhance digital transformation awareness among its students.

Overview of the workshop

Attending the workshop were Mr. Ngo Minh Hieu (Hieu PC) – Director of the Anti-Fraud Project, Former expert of the Vietnam National Cyber Security Monitoring Center, on the guest side; On behalf of the Department of Cyber Security and High-Tech Crime Prevention (Da Nang City Police), there were Colonel Nguyen Duc Thanh – Deputy Head of the Department, Major Tran Quang Huy – Team Leader of the Data Recovery Solution Research Team, Major Tran Phi Hao – Deputy Team Leader; Representatives of UD-VKU included Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector, along with leaders of Departments, Faculties and more than 500 students of Information Technology, Information Security, Computer Engineering Technology and students from schools in Da Nang city.

In his opening speech, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of the university thanked and welcomed the speakers who accepted the invitation to attend the conference. Also on this occasion, he shared that UD-VKU is proud to be the leading public tertiary institution in the Central are and Western Highlands region in the field of training and doing in-depth research on information technology, communications, and digital economy. In particular, the Information Security major/field has been trained by the university for many years and has obtained incentive achievements. In 2024, a group of UD-VKU students were in the top 20 excellent students of the “ASEAN Students with Information Security” contest and won a lot of city-level awards for cyber security drills. This has demonstrated the high quality of training and the university’s big investment in the field of Information Security.

Remarkably, the rapid emergence of products and services of deep learning, machine learning, and artificial intelligence (AI) has posed a great deal of new challenges to cyber security. Therefore, organizing this workshop also demonstrates the university’s concern about raising awareness and providing its students with the necessary skills to prevent and combat cyber risks. In the digital age, students need to be equipped with the relevant knowledge and skills to protect themselves and the community from increasing cyber security risks.

Within the framework of the workshop, the speakers shared many important contents about cybersecurity risks caused by AI, common cyber-attack methods, the current high-tech crime situation, and legal and technical measures to protect users in cyberspace. These pieces of information helped students have an overview of potential risks, from phishing, malware, and ransomware attacks to increasingly sophisticated forms of online fraud. At the same time, the workshop also gave participants practical advice on how to build a security system, including using strong passwords, protecting personal data, and identifying cyber-attacks.
