On August 10, 2025, at the 8th National Japanese Speech Contest JLAN-Test Cup held at Hue University, Phan Thao Nguyen, a student from the University of Danang (UD) - University of Foreign Language Studies (UFLS), excellently won the First Prize with a speech on the topic “Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Learning Japanese.”

According to representatives of the Organizing Committee, the contest is organized by the Japanese Language Education Association for Non-Kanji Using Countries (JLAN) and GAG Fukuoka Japanese Language Academy, Japan, in collaboration with University of Foreign Languages – Hue University and Dai Nam University.
The contest attracted Japanese language training institutions nationwide. Contestants had less than five minutes to demonstrate their Japanese speaking skills, including expressive ability, emotional delivery, fluent language usage, and engaging, persuasive content.

Participants selected and presented meaningful, timely, and diverse topics such as: “AI and Learning Japanese,” “The Future of Vietnam-Japan Relations from My Perspective,” and other subjects related to the development of language education and academic-cultural exchange between the two countries.
According to Phan Thao Nguyen, thanks to comprehensive learning and development in a multicultural academic environment, along with the support of teachers, friends, and various beneficial exchange activities with experts and international students, she has constantly honed her skills. Public speaking and Japanese language have become her passion and the key to her future.

AI is increasingly being applied in all fields. When utilized appropriately, it can greatly benefit learning and research, including the study and practice of Japanese.
“The use of AI is not to avoid thinking, but to think more deeply. I always strive to use foreign languages with my own ideas and abilities, then connect with AI to support, develop, and perfect them,” shared Thao Nguyen.

With the prize being a 7-day visit, experience, and study tour in Japan, it is hoped that this will not only encourage Thao Nguyen but also inspire students to learn foreign languages, combine technology with language and cultural development needs, and integrate globally.
