UD students shine at the MECA - Mitsubishi Electric Cup Vietnam 2026

Recently, two teams from the University of Danang (UD), representing Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands, participated in and made a strong impression at the MECA - Mitsubishi Electric Cup Vietnam 2026. The teams came from the University of Danang - University of Science and Technology (UD-DUT) and the University of Danang - University of Technology and Education (UD-UTE).

According to Mr. Hiroo Ota, Director of Factory Automation at Mitsubishi Electric Vietnam and representative of the competition's organizing partner, the MECA competition has established itself as a prestigious academic platform bringing together teams from leading Vietnamese universities that train engineering and technology professionals. This year marked the sixth edition of the competition.

The competition contributes to the achievement of the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4 - Quality Education) by supporting the development of a highly skilled workforce for strategic technology sectors, particularly automation. It also provides students with valuable practical experience, equipping them to become confident young engineers capable of integrating into modern industrial manufacturing environments.

This year's final round brought together 15 university teams to tackle real-world automation challenges in smart manufacturing, logistics, the semiconductor industry, food processing, healthcare, aquaculture, and the circular economy.

The team from UD-DUT, comprising Nguyen Tuan Thanh, Nguyen Huu Dat, Hoang Ngoc Son, and Mai Van Hieu from the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Tran Thai Anh Au, won the “Flexible Solution Prize” for their project entitled “High-Speed Component Picking Machine Integrated with a Circuit Inspection System.”

Meanwhile, the team from UD-UTE, consisting of Do Van Nhat, Bui Doan Quoc Duy, Ngo Quoc Bao, Ngo Van Loi, and Nguyen Quoc Toan, students of the Control and Automation Engineering Technology program, Faculty of Electrical and Electronics Engineering, under the supervision of Dr. Pham Duy Duong, won the Innovation Prize for their project “Smart Port Export Container Cycle Coordination System with Data Recognition Gate and AGV-Based Transportation.”

The award-winning solutions developed by UD students focus on improving operational efficiency, optimizing resource utilization, enhancing safety, and promoting sustainable development. These innovations address the growing demands of smart manufacturing industries in the new era.

The achievements not only bring pride to the faculty members and students of the participating UD member universities but also reflect UD's academic excellence and educational quality. Guided by its educational philosophy of “learning through practice for professional excellence”, UD continues to strengthen the connection between academic learning and real-world applications while fostering innovation and creativity among its students.
