UD expands education partnerships with Thai universities

The University of Danang (UD) is stepping up cooperation with Thai universities through a series of academic exchanges, student mobility programmes, cultural activities, and joint initiatives aimed at strengthening regional higher education links within ASEAN.
In recent years, UD’s member universities have actively promoted partnerships with Thai institutions in areas such as faculty and student exchanges, language learning, cultural engagement, internships, and research cooperation. UD has also identified Thailand as a key partner in its broader strategy to internationalise higher education and build sustainable academic collaboration in the region.

As part of these efforts, The University of Danang - University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS) held a closing ceremony on May 26 to award certificates to 21 students from Udon Thani Rajabhat University (UDRU) upon their completion of a two-month English-Vietnamese language and culture exchange programme in Danang.
Dr. Huynh Ngoc Mai Kha, Vice Rector of UD-UFLS, emphasised that the institution places a strong focus on international exchange programmes and multicultural learning environments, which help students broaden their academic horizons and develop the essential skills to become global citizens.

During their eight-week stay in Vietnam, the Thai students attended Vietnamese and English language classes, participated in cultural activities, engaged in practical learning experiences, and explored Vietnamese lifestyle, people, and cultural identity. The programme was designed to enhance their linguistic and cultural understanding while deepening ties between students from the two ASEAN universities.

Sujitra, a student from UDRU, shared that the programme provided participants with memorable experiences and a deeper appreciation of Vietnamese culture. She added that the experience has inspired them to pursue future careers as teachers of Vietnamese and English.

UD’s cooperation with Thai universities has also expanded through its other member institutions. In April, The University of Danang - University of Science and Education (UD-UED) sent delegations of lecturers and students to Thailand for cultural exchanges, internships, and cooperative activities with partners including Sakon Nakhon Rajabhat University (SNRU) and UDRU.

These initiatives reflect UD’s commitment to translating its regional cooperation strategy into practical programmes, leveraging the geographical and cultural proximity between Vietnam and Thailand while promoting the unique strengths of each university.

Other UD members, including The University of Danang - University of Economics (UD-DUE) and The University of Danang - Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU), have developed strategic partnerships with King Mongkut’s University of Technology North Bangkok (KMUTNB). This cooperation includes academic delegation exchanges, specialised seminars, workshops, and joint research activities.

A key highlight of this partnership is a joint programme between UD-VKU and KMUTNB that provides paid internship scholarships for UD-VKU students in Thailand. This initiative aims to give students valuable exposure to an international working environment and enhance their future employability.
UD expects this growing cooperation with Thai universities to create new momentum for deeper academic partnerships, stronger university-industry links, and more joint projects across the ASEAN community. The university noted that such collaboration will help translate research outcomes into practical applications while contributing to the development of high-quality human resources for sustainable regional growth.
