On May 10, 2025, the student team from the University of Science and Technology - the University of Danang (UD) claimed First place at the PetroChallenge 2025, earning the honor of representing Vietnam at the Asia-Pacific PetroBowl Regional Qualifiers, to be held in Malaysia in July 2025.

PetroChallenge is a prestigious academic competition organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) Vietnam, hosted in Ho Chi Minh City. The event offers students a platform to demonstrate their knowledge and skills in critical areas of the petroleum industry - ranging from oil and gas law, exploration, and production to processing and health-safety-environment (HSE) practices.

The winning team from the University of Science and Technology – UD includes Hà Thị Trúc, Nguyễn Ngọc Mai, Võ Hoàng Huy (all from Class 21H5), Nguyễn Hữu Anh Đức (Class 22H5), and Nguyễn Nhật Thành (Class 24H5), who are all passionate about pursuing the field of Petroleum Technology and Oil Exploitation.

This year’s national finals featured seven top-performing teams from leading universities across Vietnam, particularly from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, known for their strengths in engineering and technology education. Despite being first-time participants, the UD team impressed both judges and the audience with their talent, composure, and depth of knowledge throughout the competition.

Judge Phạm Văn Hoanh - a senior petroleum engineer at Harbour Energy and an alumnus of the Petrochemical Engineering program at the University of Science and Technology  - UD - praised the team’s performance, noting their impressive victory over the defending champions from Ho Chi Minh City University of Technology. This win highlights the potential and creativity of our students - it’s something to be proud of and encouraged.

The success of students of the University of Science and Technology - UD not only brings honor to themselves, their families and the University, but also spreads and arouses the passion for learning, research and innovation. It contributes meaningfully to building a high-quality workforce for the oil and gas sector—one of Vietnam’s strategic industries, essential to economic growth and national energy security.
