The University of Western Australia (Australia) will reduce tuition fees and provide partial scholarships to facilitate the University of Danang’s lecturers to pursue doctoral programs under Project 89

On the morning of June 24, 2022, Assoc. Prof.Dr Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of the University of Danang (UD) hosted the meeting with Prof. Jennifer Howell – Pro Vice-Chancellor (Global Engagement) of the University of Western Australia (UWA).

On the partner's side, there were Prof. Yinong Liu – School of Engineering, Ms. Milly Ingate – Associate Director of Global Engagement Office, Mr. Dave Connell - Advisor of Internationalisation, and Ms. Ngo Trinh – UWA’s regional representative in Vietnam.

On the part of the UD, there were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc - Rector of University of Foreign Language Studies - UD, Dr. Tran The Son – Vice Rector of Vietnam – Korea University of Information and Communication Technology – UD, leader representatives of relevant departments (Personnel Management; Science, Technology and Environment, International Cooperation), and the representative from the School of Medicine and Pharmacy (SMP) - UD.

Overview of the meeting.

At the meeting, the UD’s President Nguyen Ngoc Vu cordially welcomed Prof. Jennifer Howell and the UWA delegation to visit and work at the UD.

President Nguyen Ngoc Vu introduced the overview and highlights of the UD as a regional, multidisciplinary university with 6 member universities and affiliated institutes, faculties, subdivisions and centers. The UD currently has extensive partnerships with many international partner universities, institutes, organizations and businesses, including many Australian universities.

The UD’s President suggested some key directions to cooperate in the coming time such as: UWA receives UD’s lecturers as PhD students under Project 89 of Vietnam; joint training to create opportunities for lecturers and students; cooperation in research projects to solve socio-economic problems of localities, regions and countries...

Talking with the leader of the UD, Prof. Jennifer Howell expressed her pleasure to visit the UD. She noted and appreciated the directions and cooperation contents proposed by the UD which are appropriate, meeting the needs and interests of the two universities.

Prof. Jennifer Howell proposed that the online training could be focused on in the near future as a prerequisite for joint training. She also shared some areas that UWA has strengths such as engineering, port logistics, agriculture...

In particular, Prof. Jennifer Howell expressed her interest and high appreciation for the Vietnam’s Project 89. UWA will support reducing the tuition fees for UD’s  lecturers to participate in Project 89 as PhD students at UWA. In addition, UWA will seek scholarship sources to support UD’s  students participating in the Project 89 at UWA.
