09/07/2024
Every time the Laos’s traditional Bunpimay festival or Cambodia’s Chol Chnam Thmay festival or Vietnam’s Lunar New Year festival comes, international students at the University of Danang (UD) are excited in a joyful, warm atmosphere as if they are celebrating holidays at their home countries.
The Laos’s Bunpimay and Cambodia’s Chol Chnam Thmay this year take place on April 13-16. Every year, University of Science and Education (UED-UD) organizes exciting activities so that Lao and Cambodian students can live in the atmosphere of traditional holidays. This is also an opportunity for students from Vietnam and other countries to learn more about the culture and traditions of the two neighboring countries of Vietnam.

This year’s Bunpimay witnessed 20 more Lao students of UED-UD hosted by local families in Lien Chieu district to live together under the “2nd mother” model. This is a model implemented by the Lien Chieu district’s Women Union since 2019 to support and welcome Lao students to live with the host families. With this model, Lao students will regularly visit their families on weekends, especially on holidays. Thereby, international students have more opportunities to learn and experience Vietnamese culture and language.
University of Economics – UD currently has many Vietnamese-taught/English-taught training programs that attract international students such as Digital Marketing, International Business, etc. Many students have made efforts to graduate ahead of regular schedule. During their studies, international students can live in “5 star” in-campus hostel as well as receive a lot of benefits such as scholarships, health insurance, health check, holiday gifts,...

At present, the UD has nearly 1,000 international students and interns from more than 20 countries and territories around the world (Laos, China, Cambodia, Myanmar, Malaysia, South Korea, the US, Japan, Russia, the UK, France, Australia, Hungary, Germany, Sweden, Lithuania, Nigeria). Only in the period 2019-2024, the UD has more than 3,000 Lao students coming to study.
According to Mr. Souphanh Hadaoheuang – Consul General of Laos to Da Nang, many generations of Lao students trained at the UD have become valuable resources serving the socio – economic development of Laos. The UD and UED-UD were awarded the 3rd class Labour Medal by the President of the Lao PDR for their positive contributions in training high-quality human resources.

The UD orients and directs its member universities and affiliated units to promote the development of international training programs, English-taught programs, create a multicultural, safe, convenient, inspiring environment for international students.
Improving the quality of training and scientific research, including international students training, is one of the goals and strategies of the UD to implement the Project on improving the quality of Higher Education for the period 2019-2025. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of the UD, stressed that internationalization and attraction for international students is one of the key tasks of the UD in the coming time.
