On the morning of January 19, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of the University of Danang (UD) and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son – UD’s Vice President co-chaired the seminar on summarizing international cooperation activities in 2023, the key orientation mission by 2024.
Attending the seminar were Mr. Nguyen Xuan Binh - Director of Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs; senior representatives of functional offices of Da Nang Police Department: Lieutenant Colonel Le Thi Hien Giang - Deputy Head of Internal Political Security Office; Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Quoc Tho - Deputy Head of the Foreign Security Office; Major Ho Thi Thanh Ha - In charge of handling immigration procedures for foreigners, Immigration Management Office.

Speaking at the opening session, Vice President Le Quang Son emphasized that in the current context of globalization of higher education, international cooperation plays a very important role: International cooperation provides opportunities for universities to deeply participate in the internationalization process; developing integration capacity and active competition, thereby promoting potential, strengths, having more resources for cooperation, sustainable development, catching up with international standards and participating in University rankings to affirm prestige and quality in the global higher education market.

This seminar aims to evaluate the results and strengths to continue to promote, and identify limitations, shortcomings, and inadequacies in 2023 to propose and unify directions and solutions to perfect the international cooperation mission in 2024.
On this occasion, the senior representative of UD would like to give special thanks for the attention, companionship, and support of the Ministry of Education and Training, ministries, and localities, especially the Da Nang departments such as Da Nang Department of Foreign Affairs and Da Nang Police Department for UD as well as UD’s member universities in international cooperation activities.

Reporting at the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Anh Duc – Interim Director of UD- Department of Science and International Cooperation shared that in the 2022-2023 academic year, UD signed 123 MOUs/MOAs with partners which were prestigious international universities, organizations, and businesses. (32 MOUs at UD and its affiliated units, 91 MOUs at UD’s member universities), an increase of more than 200% compared to the previous school year.
UD and its member universities, and affiliated units chaired and successfully hosted 26 international conferences; Internationally published more than 500 articles in prestigious journals (WoS/Scopus), promoting connections and developing networks of scientists, experts, and research groups, contributing to increasing international position and prestige of UD, affirming that UD is an attractive "destination" and gathering place for major scientific events;

UD continues to implement 10 international projects from different funding sources such as World Bank ODA project; PHER project of USAID, KOICA, Erasmus+ projects, projects from major partners of Japan, Korea, Australia, Belgium...; continued to apply and successfully bid for 03 international projects with a total value of nearly 2 million Euro;
UD continued to be a prestigious international training "address", attracting 49 international lecturers and experts with nearly 700 international students from nearly 20 countries to study, practice, and do research; implemented many international student exchange programs with nearly 350 turns; coordinated with international partners to award more than 1 billion VND to students; More than 500 million VND in supporting students to participate in Japanese language courses, granted scholarships to participate in the summer semester and internships at foreign businesses...

The seminar actively discussed and exchanged contents and shared experiences from practice; focused on proposing and removing shortcomings and limitations to further develop international cooperation activities to implement the development strategy of UD to 2030, vision to 2045 with key goals such as: (1) Promote attract lecturers/experts and international students; (2) Develop international programs/researches and internship exchange programs, thereby increasing the number of UD’s students who have opportunities to exchange, study and intern abroad; (3) Improve the effectiveness of international cooperation activities, connect, and contribute to improving the quality of training and scientific research; (4) Continue to strengthen the internationalization of higher education, academic activities, language and cultural exchanges; Propose groups of solutions to improve the efficiency of international student/intern; improve the effectiveness of international cooperation in training and scientific research; Improve the efficiency of international cooperation management.

At the end of the seminar, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu – UD’s President highly acknowledged and appreciated the entire international cooperation system for the efforts, and positively contributing to the overall achievements of UD in recent years, especially the results and impressions in the 2022-2023 school year.

Evaluating the results achieved is not just to be satisfied because it is necessary to reconsider whether these results are adequate and fully exploit the potential or not; From there, looking forward to 2024, UD needs to have concerns and thoughts to discover what needs to be promoted, what needs to be improved and innovated to better do international cooperation as a "pillar" in the development strategy of UD.

The seminar needs to continue to raise awareness and thoroughly understand the role and importance of international cooperation, especially contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research. Therefore, international cooperation is a common task of the whole university/member universities, not just of specialized units or departments.
Emphasizing and clarifying the context of integration and globalization with the 4.0 Industrial Revolution, international integration and innovation become two prominent keywords in forums and conferences, and with its mission, prestige, position and tradition. "UD cannot stand aside". “The motto of international cooperation activities is substantive and effective, with focus points" shared President Nguyen Ngoc Vu.

UD President provided a clear, profound, and comprehensive direction from goals and tasks to orientation and solutions for international cooperation missions in the coming time with key goals such as promoting the lecturer exchange programs, gathering scientists and experts, or increasing student exchange and attracting international students, appropriate and specific solutions are needed.
For international projects, it is necessary to pay attention to synchronization from the stage of establishing goals, and project content, organizing plans and roadmaps for all partners; and Promoting the strength of common resources with cohesion and smooth coordination between regional universities and schools and units in practical implementation.

For the signing and implementation of MOUs/MOAs, it is necessary to ensure the harmony between goals and requirements to improve international reputation and prestige with efficiency in implementation.
Regarding the organization of international conferences and seminars, member universities and affiliated units need to improve professionalism (invite the right participants, arrange the right seating positions, introduce the right delegates, and speak with the right key points); welcoming international guests must be practical, meet the requirements, and harmonize the interests of both parties.

Raise awareness and importance of the International Cooperation to act in unison drastically synchronously and effectively
Leaders of member universities and affiliated units need to closely and thoroughly understand regulations and practices to promptly and decisively direct and maximize the strengths of each unit in international cooperation activities, and better coordinate to organize events professionally, with large-scale and high prestigious achievements;
Strengthening the state management of the international cooperation mission, and ensuring regulations is a requirement that needs to be thoroughly grasped and further improved from this seminar; Mobilizing synergy to continue promoting and expanding international cooperation from awareness. In the coming time, UD will organize a training course on receiving international funding chaired by the Department of Science and International Cooperation.
