On June 6, 2024, the University of Danang (UD) solemnly held a Ceremony to announce the Resolution of the UD Council (No. 51/NQ-HDDH dated May 2, 2024) on the establishment of the University of Danang - School of Medicine and Pharmacy (UD-SMP) based on UD- Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy.

According to Law No. 34, supplementing and amending several articles of the Law on Higher Education; Clause 4, Article 4 (Decree No. 99 on detailing and guiding the implementation of many articles of Law No. 34), UD-SMP is a school belonging to UD, with the function of training and scientific research at the undergraduate level (Doctor, Pharmacist, and Bachelor) and postgraduate level.

UD-SMP currently trains 05 full-time undergraduate majors with an application orientation in the field of health sciences including Doctor of Medicine, Doctor of Dentistry - Maxillofacial Medicine, Pharmacist of Pharmacy, Bachelor of Nursing and Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology along with a few CME continuous training courses.

In the coming time, UD-SMP will continue to develop projects to open more undergraduate and postgraduate training majors to meet the needs of society and learners such as Specialist Doctor Level I, Specialist Pharmacist Level I.

Le Kim Trong (Decision No. 1648/QD-DHDN), PhD. Dr. Med. Le Duc Nhan - Director of Da Nang Hospital (Decision No. 1857/QD-DHDN), PhD. Speaking at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr Nguyen Ngoc Vu highlighted the significance of the establishment of UD-SMP. “This is truly a milestone  event, the desire of many generations of UD’s lecturers and students. This event today will be a new turning point in the development process of UD-SMP in particular and UD in general" shared UD President.

UD President also said that the predecessor of UD-SMP was the Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy, established in 2007. President Nguyen Ngoc Vu would like to give special thanks to the leaders of MOET, the Ministry of Health, and Da Nang City; Agencies, organizations, hospitals, and partner businesses have always supported, and accompanied UD-SMP through 17 years of construction and development, overcoming countless difficulties and challenges to become into UD-SMP.

In the context of entering a new stage of development, facing increasing requirements for human resources, especially medical human resources to meet the health care needs of people in the Central-Western region in particular and the country in general, especially contributing to building Da Nang city into a high-quality medical center as proposed in the spirit of Resolution 43-NQ/TW, UD President requested UD-SMP to deploy the following missions:

Firstly, urgently organize and perfect the leadership and management system by selecting and appointing cadres with dedication, vision, responsibility, and desire to meet the new requirements in the context of competition and integration.

Attach special importance to medical ethics education to train doctors, pharmacists, and nurses who graduate not only with professional expertise but also with a kind heart and the spirit of serving patients like their own relatives, according to the teaching of President Ho Chi Minh "A physician is like a mother" and the motto "bright medical ethics, good in expertise".
