The University of Danang held a conference to summarize the 2023-2024 academic year and deploy tasks for the 2024-2025 academic year: High consensus, high determination

The conference was held on 9 August, 2024 and co-chaired by the UD’s President Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu and Vice Presidents: Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Manh Toan.

Also attending were Prof. Dr. Tran Van Nam – former President of the UD, leader representatives from the UD’s member universities’ Board of Rectors, University Councils, associations and unions, Office of Administrative Affairs and functional departments, affiliated units of the UD.

Overview of the conference.

At the conference, the leader representative of the UD’s Office of Administrative Affairs presented the report to summarize the 2023-2024 school year, and deploy the directions and tasks for the 2024-2025 school year. Accordingly, the UD as well as its member universities and affiliated units have made efforts to overcome difficulties and achieved positive results in many aspects of work.

The direction of developing the UD into a national university continues to be affirmed in the directives of the Politburo and the Prime Minister. This is an extremely important premise for the UD to develop in the coming years.

The UD has focused on directing the evaluation and arrangement of units in effective and efficient way as well as in the spirit of Resolution No. 18-NQ/TW and Resolution No. 19-NQ/TW dated 25/10/2017: established the School of Medicine and Pharmacy, re-organized functional departments (Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Science and International Cooperation), thereby contributing to perfecting the model and organizing system of the UD.

Completing the vote of confidence for the standing committee of the UD’s Party Committee, Board of Presidents, Chairman of the UD’s Council, planning the Chairman of the UD’s Council, President of the UD (for the term 2021-2026 and 2026-2031), reviewed and supplement the planning (for the term 2020-2025, 2025-2030) of the Chairman of member universities’ council, the board of rectors, leaders of affiliated units; appointment and re-appointment of management officials of the UD in accordance with regulations, democracy, openness and transparency.

The percentage of lecturers with PhD degrees reached more than 47% (an increase of nearly 2% compared to 2023), adding 14 Associate Professors to supplement important resources to continue affirming the prestige and academic reputation of the UD.

The UD continues to have a successful 2023 enrollment season, ensuring regulations, student number and student quality; have more 47 training programs accredited, meeting domestic quality standards (28 programs), international quality standards (19 programs), bringing the total number of the UD’s nationally and internationally accredited programs to 95, making the UD among top 3 of educational institutions in Vietnam with the largest number of accredited programs.

During the past school year, the UD had 242 newly approved and implemented science and technology topics at all levels (9 government ones, 23 ministerial level, 6 provincial level, 25 UD level, 3 sector and academia – industry and cooperation level, 176 unit level); published 488 articles in prestigious international journals (WoS, Scopus); continued to participate in policy consultation for government and provincial authorities.

The UD’s Journal of Science and Technology joined the DOAJ database, thereby continuing to expand its capacity, scope and academic reputation. The UD’s staff, lecturers and students achieved many results with many products, scientific works and applied/transferred innovations.

The UD has organized/hosted many domestic and international scientific events and conferences, typically receiving the delegation of the European University Alliance (Ulysseus) to visit and sign a memorandum of cooperation, becoming the first strategic non-European partner of Ulysseus.

The UD has implemented many international projects such as: PHER (Parnership for Higher Education Reform), Digital MOVE (Bridging digital divide in Mongolia and Vietnam through HEI’s Digital transformation), HEIsCITI (HEIs as innovative triggers of sustainable development), SOHO (Smart, optimized, high-quality and on-demand tourism innovative education for sustainable and green development).

Actively implementing key projects in accordance with regulations, progress and quality, especially the University Urban Area project in Hoa Quy – Dien Ngoc.

The UD has signed more cooperation agreements with prestigious domestic and international partners such as: Vietnam National University – HCMC, Alliance of leading universities in Vietnam in training semiconductor, Ulysseus European Alliance, many businesses, thereby contributing to raising the prestige and position of the UD,...

At the conference, the delegates expressed their opinions and high consensus with the Draft Report of the UD; highly appreciated the direction, leadership, efforts and achievements of the entire UD in the past school year, agreed with the orientations and directions of the 2024-2025 school year.

The delegates gave constructive comments, enthusiastically completed the Draft Report, discussed and proposed appropriate solutions to promptly overcome the limitations, carry out the tasks of the new school year, contributing to the realization of the goals, the development strategy of the UD and the Project to develop the UD into a national university; continue to affirm the role and mission in training high-quality human resources, contributing to the socio – economic development of localities, the region and the country.

In his concluding remarks at the conference, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu acknowledged and thanked the opinion of the delegates, assigned the leaders of Office of Administrative Affairs and functional departments to consider and implement in practice.

Emphasizing that the results achieved in the past school year were extremely great and comprehensive, the effort, intelligence and pride of the entire UD, President Nguyen Ngoc Vu shared his concern with the key leaders about how the UD can do better to commensurate with the UD’s potentials.

The UD’s President emphasized a number of key tasks that need to be focused on, specifically:

(1) Well prepare for the new school year (especially in terms of facilities, teaching staff, reasonable study plan); organize a thoughtful and friendly reception for new students, creating a good impression of the member universities and the UD from the beginning.

(2) Review the 2024 Investment and Procurement Plan for Facilities based on the current financial resources and meet practical requirements; proactively develop a feasible, practical, economical and effective 2025 Plan, prioritize resources for human resources, ensures salaries for the employees.

(3) Well prepare for the 30th anniversary of establishment of the UD, focusing on the main ceremony in November.

(4) Carefully prepare and organize the Party Congresses at all levels towards the 7th Party Congress of the UD, term 2025-2030.

(5) Continue to effectively implement major orientations such as: strengthening connections with high schools, promoting academia – industry linkage, focusing on relations with ministries, agencies and localities, innovating university governance in the direction of enhancing service for learners, improving the quality and effectiveness of teaching, staff and lecturer management.

(6) Effectively implement the 2025 enrollment tasks.

(7) Promote service activities such as short-term training to effectively exploit facilities and increase revenue for member universities, units.

(8) Focus on implementing key projects and plans such as: University Urban Area in Hoa Quy – Dien Ngoc, Project to develop the UD into a national university.

(9) Review and complete the system of internal regulation documents on the basis of updating documents of government authorities and practical experience of the UD.
