On the afternoon of December 21, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of the University of Danang (UD) chaired a meeting and worked with Mr. Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in Vietnam.

Speaking at the reception, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of UD respectfully welcomed and honored to welcome Mr. Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich - Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Vietnam and the delegation to visit and work at UD.

Introducing the overview and highlights of the University of Danang, a national key regional university, multi-field, multi-disciplinary with 06 member universities and affiliated institutes, faculties, branches, more than 2,500 staff and lecturers staff (more than 46% have a PhD degree or higher) and nearly 60,000 students/trainees, the President of UD shared with the Ambassador, after nearly 50 years of building and developing, UD’s member universities has trained and provided tens of thousands of engineers, officials, teachers, experts and businessmen for the country.

Many UD alumni/ students are holding key positions in agencies, organizations, businesses and universities presented on most key national works and projects, actively contribute to the socio-economic development of the Central Highlands region and the whole country.

As a leading scientific research and training center with the mission of providing high-quality human resources, UD receives attention from the Vietnamese Government by giving priority to key investment in ODA projects from the World Bank to build the University Urban Area (at Hoa Quy-Dien Ngoc, about 20km from the city center) and is promoting the implementation of urgent items and works. This is an important premise in the strategy of developing UD into a National University (along with Hanoi National University and Ho Chi Minh City National University), UD President shared.

To realize this strategic goal, UD always focuses on developing international cooperation, considers this is an important factor to constantly expand and strengthen connections with agencies, organizations, universities and prestigious domestic and foreign enterprises, including partners of the Russian Federation.

UD highly values the achievements and strengths of universities and research institutes of the Russian Federation, especially in the fields of basic science and its rich and long history and diverse culture, life along with the good traditional friendly cooperative relationship between the people of the two countries (Vietnam and the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation today). Many officials and lecturers of UD are trained and grown from prestigious universities of the Soviet Union/Russian Federation, UD President Nguyen Ngoc Vu emphasized.

Assessing that the potential for cooperation in the fields between UD and universities and institutes of the Russian Federation is very large, UD leaders respectfully thank and wish that through the Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam as well as the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Da Nang cares and supports helping to act as a connection for UD to connect more prestigious partners of the Russian Federation, thereby enhancing the exchange of staff/lecturers and students, and joint research cooperation, contributing to improving the quality of training and scientific research.

Talking with the President of UD, Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich shared his joy when having the opportunity to visit and work with UD; Sincerely thank the President of UD for giving individuals and the delegation a warm and respectful welcome.

Expressing his impression of the development, role and international reputation of UD, the Ambassador hoped that this working visit would contribute to enhancing understanding and grasping needs to promote opportunities, cooperation, especially in the fields of education and training, science and technology, language and culture exchange.

After the COVID-19 pandemic was basically controlled, the Russian Federation was eager to restore and further promote comprehensive cooperation activities with Vietnam, not only in socio-economic, scientific, engineering and technology, but also in the fields of culture, education and training. "This is one of the most important and key areas to educate the young generation because the young generation is the future of our two countries," Ambassador Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich emphasized.

Sharing about the role of the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Da Nang, which is always closely connected with the Da Nang city government in general, UD, including UD-UFLS in particular in educational and training activities, language and cultural exchange, the Ambassador said he regularly meets and exchanges with the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to strengthen cooperation; hopes that in the coming time there will be such a connection with UD leaders so that the two sides can promote further cooperation.

Delegates attending the meeting discussed the results and outstanding marks in cooperation, especially at UD-UFLS (with the Faculty of Russian as the core in the role and mission of teaching and research, Russian language study) has contributed to consolidating and cultivating the traditional and friendly relationship between the two countries.

UD-UFLS and the Department of Science and International Cooperation of UD expressed their hope that the Embassy of the Russian Federation will be interested in sharing more information about scholarships, especially those under the Agreement, to create more valuable opportunities for UD staff, lecturers and students to study and research in the Russian Federation.

The UD side wishes and is ready to welcome experts, lecturers and international students from the Russian Federation to teach, research and study, participate in training courses and internships at UD’s member universities.

In an atmosphere of understanding and sincerity, the Embassy and Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Da Nang said they are ready to act as a bridge to continuously connect UD with  reputable research institute and universities of Russsia.

The Ambassador will pay attention and support to introduce UD to interested scientists, experts/ lecturers and students from other universities, participate in exchange and research cooperation activities, studying at UD.

On this occasion, the Consulate General of the Russian Federation in Da Nang city, Ms. Mizonova Maria Georgievna transferred the Draft of Memorandum of Understanding of cooperation of the partner University to the President of UD; expressed his hope that the two universities will promote the signing and implement it effectively, bring common benefits for joint development in the future.

On the threshold of the New Year 2024, UD President Nguyen Ngoc Vu and Ambassador of the Russian Federation to Vietnam Bezdetko Gennady Stepanovich extended their best wishes: "Today's meeting will be the beginning of a journey of cooperation even better in times to come"; At the same time, he acknowledged the goodwill and wishes of both sides; continued to pay attention to promoting increasingly practical and effective cooperation for sustainable development.
