On 28 July, 2024, at the final round of the Unihack-2024 application programming competition organized annually by Google Developer Student Club and Google Developer Group Cloud Danang, “The Seekers” team from University of Science and Technology (DUT) – The University of Danang (UD) won the championship with the “Hidden Gems” application to support tourist destination searching.

This is an academic and creative playground for students who are passionate about technology and programming in the Central region. This year’s topic is Digital Tourism.

According to the organizing committee, the competition aims to inspire programming and creativity to create breakthrough products and solutions to bring useful values to serve the community. Particularly, Unihack-2024 contributes to the development of 4.0 tourism, actively participates in the process of IT application and national digital transformation, especially during the peak tourism season in the Central region.

The competition started in June 2024, gathering 30 teams with more than 120 participants. These teams have gone through the “Idea” round (to select 10 teams) and then “Programming” round to select the best 5 teams who entered the Final round.

The topic presented by the teams to the jury and the audience all demonstrated exploration and creativity with high practical applications such as: “Hidden gems” – application to support tourism destination search, “Spoter – millions of destinations” – social networking application where travel enthusiasts can share real travel experiences and evaluate destinations.

In the end, with the project “Hidden gems”, students from DUT-UD have brought about convenient technology features to help introduce unique tourist destinations, attracting the needs and tastes of tourists.

The Tourism Promotion Center under Danang’s Department of Tourism will consider to support, develop the application of students’ ideas and projects after the Unihack-2024.
