President of The University of Danang received the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam for a visit and work

On September 30, 2024, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of The University of Danang (UD) chaired the meeting with H.E.Ms. Caroline Beresford - New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam to visit and work with UD.
Also attending were Ms. Le Hanh Le - Policy Advisor of the New Zealand Embassy in Vietnam; representatives of relevant departments of UD (Academic Affairs and Educational Quality Assurance, Science and International Cooperation, Student Affairs) and UD - Center for Learning Resources and Communication.

Speaking at the reception, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of UD respectfully welcomed H.E.Ms. Caroline Beresford - New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam to visit and work with UD.
The President of UD introduced the general and outstanding features of UD as a national key regional university, multi-disciplinary, multi-industry with 06 member universities (University of Science and Technology, University of Economics, University of Science and Education, University of Foreign Language Studies, University of Technology and Education, Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology), the School of Medicine and Pharmacy along with other institutes, faculties, branches and affiliated centers with about 2,600 staff, lecturers and more than 60,000 students.

The President of UD shared with the Ambassador that, after nearly 50 years of tradition of UD’s member universities and 30 years of building and developing UD, UD has trained most of the scientific and technical staff, economic management staff, lecturers, experts and businessmen for the Central Highlands region and the whole country. It is a great pride that UD alumni hold many key positions in agencies, organizations, businesses, universities and schools, made very important contributions to the socio-economic development of the region and the country.
The Vietnamese Government attaches great importance to training high-quality human resources to promote industrialization and modernization for the country's development in the new period. The Government has paid attention and prioritized investment to UD to become one of the three leading training, scientific research, and technology transfer centers in the country. UD, together with Vietnam National University in Hanoi and Vietnam National University in Ho Chi Minh City, received investment from the Government in an ODA loan project from the World Bank (100 million USD for each university) to invest in facilities at the University Urban Area (Hoa Quy-Dien Ngoc), shared the President of UD.

The two sides exchanged and oriented to promote cooperation
UD attaches great importance to improving the quality of training, scientific research and students care; considers learners as a fundamental factor for sustainable development. Regarding international cooperation, UD focuses on expanding cooperation with universities around the world, including universities from New Zealand.
It is known that recently, General Secretary and President of Vietnam To Lam received the New Zealand Ambassador and hoped that next year, the two sides will continue to promote cooperation, including the field of education and training. Therefore, the visit and work of the New Zealand Ambassador to UD was very meaningful, hopefully it would be a bridge to open up opportunities for UD to cooperate with many universities and businesses of New Zealand in an increasingly practical and effective manner, achieving new successes.

Talking with the President of UD, H.E.Ms. Caroline Beresford - New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam sincerely thanked the leaders of UD for their warm welcome. The Ambassador shared that in a recent meeting with Vietnamese alumni who studied in New Zealand, there were many students of UD.
This demonstrates the international prestige of UD with its close relationship with New Zealand universities and the visit to UD was an opportunity for the two sides to continue developing that good cooperative relationship, especially when the President of UD highlighted the milestone of Vietnam and New Zealand celebrating the 50th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations next year.

The President of UD said that in terms of staff development, UD is sending lecturers to further study in advanced countries under Project 89 of the Vietnamese Government, so UD hopes that the Ambassador will support the connection with prestigious universities in New Zealand. With the tradition of diligence, studiousness and creativity of the people of the Central region, it is hoped that the lecturers will return to continue to become "ambassadors" to promote the close relationship between the two countries.
In terms of science and technology, UD currently has 03 member universities leading in training semiconductor chip engineers, actively participating in the Project of developing high-quality human resources of Da Nang city and the whole country. With the need to develop green agriculture, UD has the Faculty of Biology and Environment of UD- University of Science and Education with strengths to cooperate in training and research.
UD hopes to have more students and lecturers exchange projects and joint research cooperation between universities of both sides, promoting foreign language training for students, especially English set to gradually become the second language in Vietnam.

In an atmosphere of trust and understanding, the New Zealand Ambassador to Vietnam said that New Zealand has training and research programs in advanced technology fields, with strengths to develop an innovation ecosystem. This is a similarity for the two sides to promote cooperation in accordance with their needs and potential.
The President of UD assigned the Department of Science and International Cooperation of UD to promote consultation and concretize the common orientations shared by the two sides; hoping that there will be more opportunities for scientists, experts, lecturers and students to exchange academic knowledge and cooperate in research.
