National Conference “Research and Teaching of Chinese Language in Vietnam” held for the first time at the University of Danang - University of Foreign Language Studies

 

On October 11, 2024, the University of Danang- University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS) hosted the inaugural National Conference on "Research and Teaching of Chinese Language in Vietnam."

The conference highlighted the importance of strengthening the Vietnam-China Comprehensive Strategic Partnership

 

Attending the conference were Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Khang, President of the Sub-Association for Chinese Language Research and Teaching and Editor-in-Chief of the Language and Life Journal; Dr. Tran Thi Thanh Mai, Director of the Bach Nha Institute of Applied Language Studies and founder of TMEDU Education Organization; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc, UD-UFLS’ Rector, and Head of the Organizing Committee; and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Le Kim Anh, Vice-Rector of the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi.

Also in attendance were representatives from the Rectorate board, offices, faculties, centers of UD-UFLS, and researchers, experts, lecturers, and trainees.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Huu Phuc, UD-UFLS’s Rector, this national academic forum, held for the first time in Vietnam, brought together scientists, researchers, and teachers specializing in Chinese language in Vietnam. They shared knowledge and experiences to contribute to enhancing the quality of Chinese language education and research, meeting labour market demands, and fostering economic and cultural exchange between the two countries amid global integration.

This event also commemorated the 30th anniversary of UD’s establishment, 30 years of Chinese language training (1994-2024), and the 17th anniversary of the Chinese Faculty’s establishment (2007-2024) at UD-UFLS. It marked a significant milestone in the school’s continuous development as a leading language and culture education and research centre in the region and the country.

Immediately following the opening ceremony, the plenary session was led by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ha Le Kim Anh, Vice-Rector of the University of Languages and International Studies – Vietnam National University, Hanoi, and the Organizing Committee, led by scientific reports and more than 50 presentations in 10 thematic sub-committees with diverse contents and research topics. Research such as The role of the native language in teaching and learning Chinese; Methods of teaching and testing Chinese, Chinese language research; Applying information technology in Chinese language research and teaching; Training high school Chinese teachers...

Awarding certificates  to authors presenting at the conference

According to the Organizing Committee, the success of this first conference hosted by the UD-UFLS not only expanded the network for academic exchange and research in Chinese language but also reinforced the host institution’s reputation. It fostered a spirit of collaboration and cultural, educational, and training exchange, contributing to the development of the Vietnam-China comprehensive strategic partnership. This event’s significance was further highlighted by recent high-level diplomatic visits and discussions between the two nations’ leaders.
