On the morning of December 16, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son – Vice President of the University of Danang (UD) had a meeting and worked with the National University of Laos (NUoL) Delegation led by Assoc.Prof.Dr. Oudom Phonekhampheng - President of NUoL as Delegation Leader.

Also attending were members of the NUoL Delegation including leaders of member universities and affiliated units. On the side of UD, there were Assoc.Prof.Dr. Phan Cao Tho - Rector of the University of Danang – University of Technology and Education (UD-UTE) and leaders of relevant departments of UD (Academics Affairs; Science, Technology and Environment; International Cooperation; Student Affairs).

Speaking at the meeting, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son – Vice President of UD warmly welcomed Assoc.Prof.Dr. Oudom Phonekhampheng  and NUoLdelegation visited and worked with UD after the NUoL visit of UD leaders on the occasion of attending the Vietnam  Higher Education Exhibition in Laos.

This was a meaningful visit on the occasion of the 47^th anniversary of Lao National Day in the “Vietnam-Laos Solidarity and Friendship Year 2022”.

Vice President of UD made a speech

Vice President of UD Le Quang Son introduced to NuoL leaders the outstanding overview of UD which is currently a multi-disciplinary and  key regional university of Vietnam, including 06 member universities and branches, institutes and affiliated faculties.

With the potential of more than 2,500 staff and lecturers (45% with PhD degrees), UD currently has a large training scale (more than 55,000 full-time students) with 126 undergraduate majors, 45 master's degree majors and 29 doctorate degree majors, UD takes on the mission of training high-quality human resources for the region and the whole country, in which education cooperation between Vietnam and Laos has always received the attention of agencies and organizations of the two countries.

With a long tradition and 20 years of experience in training Laotian international students, UD is pleased and proud to have trained nearly 2,600 students so far (including 10 PhDs, nearly 400 masters and engineer/ bachelor) graduated from UD. In the past year, UD and the University of Danang - University of Science and Education (UD-UED) were honored to receive the Third Class Labor Medal awarded by the President of Lao PDR.

UD currently has 02 member universities (UD-UED and the University of Danang – University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS)) licensed by the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam to train Vietnamese for foreigners. This is a favorable condition to improve the quality of Vietnamese language teaching and learning for Laotian students, contributing to promoting educational cooperation between the two countries - Assoc.Prof.Dr. Le Quang Son shared with NUoL leaders.

Talking with the leaders of UD, Assoc.Prof.Dr. Oudom Phonekhampheng - President of NUoL expressed his pleasure when he and the Delegation had the opportunity to visit and work with UD for the first time. President of NUoL said that National University of Laos is the leading university in their country with 26 years of establishment (almost similar to UD) with a training scale of about 23,000 students.

With a strategy of constantly improving the faculty's potential as well as the quality of training and scientific research, NUoL hopes that the two sides will continue to strengthen cooperation, including students exchange (NUoL accepts the Students from the North of Vietnam come to study and do research which is almost similar to UD receives many students from 06 Southern provinces of Laos) in order to create more opportunities for academic and cultural exchange, contributing to fostering the relationship, the traditional special friendship and solidarity between the two countries.

In an atmosphere of sincerity and understanding, the two sides exchanged and proposed cooperation-oriented contents, in which NUoL wishes to develop training programs, educational management to adapt to the context of integration and development globalization, university governance and international cooperation. UD's leaders recognized NUoL's proposals and assigned relevant units to promote and conduct specific research so that they can cooperate and implement effectively in the coming time.

Previously (November 2022), representatives of the leaders of UD and NUoL resigned the Memorandum of Understanding at the Vietnam Higher Education Exhibition (held in Vientiane, Laos).

NUoL is the largest university in Laos that plays a pivotal and important role in the Laotian education system with many multidisciplinary undergraduate/ graduate training programs. NUoL is currently a member of the ASEAN University Network and the Mekong Academic and Research System. At NUoL, there are currently nearly 200 Vietnamese students studying under an agreement within the framework of bilateral educational cooperation between the two countries as well as self-sufficient.
