JFE Steel Corporation (Japan) awards scholarships to UD students

On January 30, 2026, the University of Danang (UD), in coordination with its partner JFE Steel Corporation (Japan), held the JFE Scholarship Awarding Ceremony 2026 for UD students, with a total value of over VND 75 million (10 scholarships, each worth JPY 45,000, equivalent to approximately VND 7.5 million per scholarship).

Attending the event were Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac, Vice President of UD; Mr. Kazuya Yamazaki, Deputy Director of the JFE Steel Research Laboratory; Mr. Hiroumi Shimokawa, General Manager of the Civil Engineering and Infrastructure Research Division of the JFE Steel Research Laboratory; and Mr. Atsushi Watanabe, General Director of JFE Steel Vietnam Co., Ltd.

Also present were representatives of UD’s relevant departments and centers (Department of Science and International Cooperation; Department of Student Affairs, Corporate Relations and Communication; Center for Research  and Counseling in Employment and Self-funded Overseas Study, student affairs units of member universities and affiliated and attached training units, along with scholarship recipients.

In his remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Thanh Bac, Vice President of UD, expressed his sincere appreciation to JFE Steel Corporation’s leadership for its long-standing companionship and close cooperation with UD in the mission of training high-quality human resources, particularly through providing JFE scholarships to students of UD member universities and affiliated andattached training units.

UD leadership highly appreciated the significance of the JFE Scholarship, considering it a valuable source of encouragement for UD students to continuously strive for excellence in learning and personal development, while strengthening their confidence and aspirations.

UD also noted that, after more than 30 years of establishment and development building on over half a century of training tradition from its member universities, UD has become a major center for education, scientific research, and international cooperation in the Central Highlands–Central Vietnam region and nationwide. UD has been selected by the Government for key investment and is regarded as a model within Vietnam’s higher education system.

Within this journey, the strong and sustainable partnership with international partners and major Japanese corporations such as JFE plays an important role in promoting each party’s strengths toward sustainable development.

Congratulating the scholarship recipients, UD leadership emphasized that today’s scholarships are a well-deserved recognition of the students’ efforts, and also a responsibility for them to continue nurturing their dreams of mastering knowledge, contributing to the country, and spreading the spirit of support to future generations of students on their paths of study and career development.

According to Mr. Kazuya Yamazaki, Deputy Director of the JFE Steel Research Laboratory, this marks the 13th consecutive year that JFE has awarded scholarships to UD students. This initiative not only falls within the strategic cooperation framework between JFE and UD, but also reflects JFE’s commitment and desire to contribute to education and training development and human resource supply, while fostering the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan.

Congratulating the UD students receiving the JFE Scholarship this year, JFE expressed hope that they will continue striving to excel and become “ambassadors” helping to strengthen the bridge of Vietnam–Japan friendship and cooperation toward the future.

Sharing updates on JFE’s production and business development in Vietnam, JFE representatives highlighted the strong demand for high-quality human resources, especially in engineering–technology and construction-related fields. This is an opportunity for UD students to enhance their knowledge and language skills to better integrate into the regional and international labor markets.

This year, JFE continues to award 10 scholarships to UD students with outstanding academic achievements, active social engagement, and foreign language proficiency in Japanese and/or English. In addition, JFE supports Japanese language development activities and cultural and educational exchanges for students through UD’s Department of Science and International Cooperation, with total funding of JPY 50,000 (equivalent to approximately VND 8.5 million).

At the ceremony, student Le Huynh Anh Thu from UD-University of Economics, delivering remarks in both Vietnamese and Japanese, expressed gratitude and appreciation to UD lecturers and JFE Steel Corporation’s leadership for providing this meaningful scholarship for UD students. She noted that the scholarship is both an honor and a strong motivation for students to strive for even better results in return for the valuable support from the enterprise and the University.
