JFE Steel Corporation awards scholarships to students of the University of Danang

On the afternoon of February 19, 2025, the University of Danang (UD), in collaboration with its partner, JFE Steel Corporation, Japan, organized the JFE Scholarship Award Ceremony for UD students. A total of 10 scholarships were awarded, each worth 45,000 yen, amounting to more than 75 million VND in total.

The ceremony, held at the UD, was attended by Mr. Kazuya Yamazaki, Deputy Director of the JFE Steel Research Institute; Mr. Hiroumi Shimokawa, General Manager of the JFE Steel Research Institute; Mr. Yoshiki Yasumasa, General Director of JFE Steel Vietnam; Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son, Vice President of UD; along with representatives from the UD’s relevant departments, including Department of Science and International Cooperation, Department of Student Affairs, Japan Center, and representatives from the student affairs offices of the  UD’s member universities. The scholarship recipients were also present at the event.

Speaking at the ceremony, Prof. Dr. Le Quang Son sincerely thanked the leadership of JFE Steel Corporation and its affiliated units for their ongoing collaboration with the UD in training high-quality human resources. He particularly appreciated JFE’s continuous support in awarding scholarships to the UD students for many years. This marks the 12th consecutive year that UD students have had the honor of receiving the prestigious JFE Steel Scholarship.

He also provided an overview of the UD, highlighting its status as a key national, multi-disciplinary university with six member universities, one affiliated institution, and several other training units.

With over 30 years of establishment and development, and as the UD’s member universities celebrate their 50th anniversary this year, the university has trained a large workforce of scientists, economists, educators, entrepreneurs, and experts serving the Central Highlands region and the entire country. The UD currently has a team of nearly 2,600 faculty members and approximately 55,000 full-time students.

The UD's development strategy aims to transform the university into a national university by 2030, pioneering innovation and integration while ranking among the top 50 universities in Southeast Asia and the top 400 in Asia.

Vice President Le Quang Son emphasized that to achieve this vision, the UD prioritizes international collaboration and partnerships with businesses to mobilize resources for sustainable growth.

The UD praised the fruitful cooperation with JFE Steel Corporation since 2013, which has provided students with valuable opportunities. Many JFE scholarship recipients have gone on to make significant contributions to society, strengthening the friendship between Vietnam and Japan.

Congratulating the scholarship recipients, the UD’s leader encouraged students to appreciate the financial and motivational value of the scholarships, continue striving for academic excellence, and use their knowledge and energy to contribute to society.

Mr. Kazuya Yamazaki, Deputy Director of the JFE Steel Research Institute, expressed his delight at witnessing the increasingly strong, practical, and effective partnership between JFE and the UD.

The JFE representative shared that the corporation has undertaken various initiatives to fulfill its social responsibility, actively contributing to the development of education and training, human resource development, and the comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan. This includes a longstanding, robust collaboration with the UD for over 10 years.

Congratulating UD students on receiving the JFE Scholarship this time, the corporation hopes to further inspire and motivate them in their journey of learning and pursuing knowledge for a brighter future.

During the ceremony, representatives from JFE Steel Vietnam shared information about the scholarship program and career opportunities at JFE.

This year, JFE awarded 10 scholarships to outstanding students from the UD’s member universities and affiliated institutions. These students have demonstrated academic excellence, actively participated in social activities, and possess strong language skills (Japanese and English), providing them with opportunities for further studies or employment in both domestic and international enterprises.

On behalf of the scholarship recipients, Le Nguyen Minh Trang, a student from University of Economics – UD, expressed deep gratitude to JFE Steel Corporation and UD for their meaningful support. The scholarships not only help students overcome financial challenges but also serve as motivation to excel in their studies and life.

The recipients pledged to continue their efforts to achieve outstanding academic results and live up to the generous support provided by JFE and the UD.
