Metaverse (Meta-universe) is becoming a new technology trend with a combination of virtual technology and 3-dimensional space, considered the next development step of the Internet, being focused on research by leading corporations in the world such as Meta, Google, Microsoft.

In anticipation of that trend, the University of Danang (UD) has established UD-Teaching and Research Group for Metaverse and Digital Transformation Technologies (or METLAB for short) as the connection point of the Software Development Center of UD (SDC) gathering many domestic and foreign experts and scientists (Establishment Decision No. 1466/QD-DHDN).

According to Dr. Trinh Cong Duy, SDC Director,  the mission and focus of METLAB is towards a typical model for research groups specialized in advanced technology, in line with the strategy of forming UD's strong research groups and it is both a gathering, interdisciplinary, dynamic connection between research and application, between the University’s centers and organizations, businesses and partners for common interests.

According to the Proposal for establishment and organization of operations, METLAB focuses on the effectiveness, research quality and its achievements, which must meet the requirements of international standards and qualifications; motivate and support for international scientific publications; develop capacity building, including qualified and highly professional researchers; focus on interdisciplinary integration factors; mobilize resources to build material foundations, especially high-tech laboratories with modern equipment, capable of conducting interdisciplinary, breakthrough and in-depth scientific research; promote cooperation between universities and enterprises to bring new commercial products and knowledge to transfer and apply into practice...

Metaverse application is aim to create borderless virtual offices

The establishment of METLAB is a necessary initial step to meet the needs of interdisciplinary research and development cooperation in dynamic fields such as: Information Technology; Media and Digital Economy, etc.

This will contribute to the establishment and development of interdisciplinary research groups, connection of higher education institutions with investors and businesses. Only by this way can we mobilize more resources; promote research and application of Metaverse technology; bring economic values, services and utilities for socio-economic development and life needs.
