Da Nang Newspaper: Promoting Digital Transformation at the University of Danang

27/03/2025

Digital transformation in education and training in general, and higher education at the University of Danang (UD) in particular, is becoming a strong development trend. This is especially relevant in the context of the Politburo recently issuing Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW on breakthroughs in the development of science, technology, innovation, and national digital transformation. Digital transformation not only enhances the quality of education but also meets the increasing demands of society and the labor market.

UD organized a Conference on Solutions

to promote Digital Transformation

Digital Transformation in Teaching and Learning

Outside of the classroom, Nguyen Thi Thanh Huyen, a Business Administration student at UD- University of Economics (UD-DUE) – one of UD’s member universities, spends a lot of time on self-study. With just a computer connected to the internet, Huyen can log into her student account, access the school's open resource library, review lessons, participate in discussions, and work on group assignments.

According to Huyen, thanks to the application of information technology (IT), students can find study materials through digital learning resources, track academic results, receive feedback from lecturers, and monitor the progress of assignments on the system with ease. This enables students to access knowledge proactively and continuously.

From 2012 to 2024, UD-DUE has made significant investments in IT infrastructure and digital databases, upgraded the online learning management system (eLearning), and equipped facilities for online learning.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Le Van Huy, Rector of UD-DUE, stated that since its implementation, the system has become an essential part of teaching and learning activities at UD-DUE. With over 10,000 students and 300 lecturers, the learning management system allows students to easily access study materials, course schedules, and relevant announcements from the beginning of the semester.

On February 26, 2025, UD-DUE organized

a training course on the Blended Learning Model

(Combining In-Person and Online Learning)

This system records more than 208,000 visits monthly, demonstrating students' active engagement in using online learning tools. In the second semester of the 2023-2024 academic year, UD-DUE introduced a blended learning model, combining in-person classroom teaching with online learning through the development of the Study-Arts platform. This platform enhances students' flexibility in accessing knowledge and optimizes the use of digital learning resources.

Additionally, UD-DUE’s online learning platform is integrated with various tools such as instructional videos, digital learning materials, online discussion forums, and interactive quizzes. These features enable lecturers to manage their classes effectively while providing students with access to a rich repository of learning materials.

Furthermore, UD-DUE actively develops and improves training programs, regularly updating and integrating digital technology into curricula—especially in fields requiring high technical proficiency—to meet the growing demands of the digital labor market.

UD-DUE makes strong Investments in IT

Infrastructure and Digital Databases for Students

Similarly, UD- University of Foreign Language Studies (UD-UFLS)– one of UD’s member universities has been applying IT in teaching from an early stage, with its online learning management system (LMS) implemented in 2014. The COVID-19 pandemic served as a catalyst, accelerating the application of IT and digital transformation across management, teaching, and learning.

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Long, Rector of UD-UFLS, the university has proactively embraced innovation and implemented comprehensive digital transformation by shifting mindsets, improving management models, and modernizing teaching and research methods. This includes organizing conferences and seminars on digital transformation and IT applications in management and teaching, refining internal regulations, developing annual digital transformation plans, investing in IT infrastructure, and implementing blended learning for all training programs. Additionally, UD-UFLS conducts examinations and assessments via computer-based testing, develops e-learning materials, and builds a digital test bank.

UD-UFLS was a pioneer

in applying Digital Transformation

with an Online Learning System

Towards a Smart and Sustainable University

With a strategic orientation on technology application and digital transformation to build a comprehensive digital education ecosystem, UD- Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (UD-VKU) has proactively implemented IT applications and digital transformation across various activities. These include integrating IT solutions into training management, scientific research, university administration, and student support services. UD-VKU has also developed an online admission and enrollment system, allowing applicants to register, submit documents, and check their results quickly and conveniently.

UD-VKU signed a Cooperation Agreement

with the National Internet Center

to promote Digital Transformation

and Digital Workforce training

According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, Rector of UD-VKU, the university has been vigorously implementing its IT application and digital transformation strategy since 2020, with the goal of building a smart university that meets the demands of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. This initiative has yielded positive results. In 2024, UD-VKU launched a parent portal, creating an effective communication channel between families and the university, enabling parents to stay updated on their children's academic progress and personal development.

Additionally, UD-VKU has implemented an online training management system, a digital library system, a university management system, and an online learning platform. The university is also a pioneer in applying artificial intelligence (AI) in teaching and research. As a result, students benefit from a comprehensive learning environment and have opportunities to participate in academic and innovation competitions from their first and second years. These include contests such as Robocar Innovation and Beautiful Web Design, where UD-VKU students have achieved high rankings in national and international competitions.

UD promotes Digital Transformation

in Three Key Areas: Workforce Training,

Research Enhancement and IT Application

in University Administration

The leaders of UD have affirmed that UD and its member universities recognize digital transformation as a driving force for development and a new direction to enhance the quality of education, scientific research, and university administration.

Therefore, UD actively implements digital transformation in three key areas: workforce training, research enhancement, and the application of IT in digital transformation and university governance. At the same time, UD continues to develop and implement information systems for administration, teaching, and research in an integrated, synchronized, and interconnected manner. UD is also advancing the digitization process by integrating relevant data to establish a knowledge repository, educational resources, and comprehensive management databases within its system.
