Cong an Nhan dan Newspaper: The University of Danang (UD) strengthens international academic exchange and collaboration
28/11/2024
On the occasion of the opening of the International Conference "Sustainable University Development: Opportunities and Challenges," hosted by the UD as part of its series of events celebrating 30 years of establishment and development (1994-2024), the UD Learning Information Resource and Communication Center proudly introduces the article "University of Danang strengthens international academic exchange and collaboration" published in the Cong an Nhan dan (People’s Police) Newspaper on November 6, 2024.
With a strategic orientation to expand international cooperation to generate resources for development, enhance the quality of education and scientific research, the UD has directed its member universities to bolster lecturer and student exchanges. This facilitates academic engagement, hands-on experiences, and research collaboration with advanced countries, reflecting UD’s dynamism and adaptability to elevate the competency of its faculty and students while contributing knowledge to address global issues.

Lecturers actively engaged in community-oriented academic exchanges
The University of Science and Education, a member of UD, announced that two of its faculty members, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Dang Mau, Dean of the Biology-Environment Faculty, and Dr. Bui Thi Thanh Dieu, Head of the Psychology Faculty, are participating in academic exchange programs at leading U.S. universities.
As one of Vietnam’s top three universities selected to participate in the U.S.-Vietnam Higher Education Partnership (PHER), UD has made significant strides.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Dang Mau has led research in Spirulina production technology, which is being applied to boost local economic development in Van Tuong City, Quang Ngai Province. Currently, he is researching rotifers at the Marine Biology Laboratory at the University of Chicago.
His research focuses on applying advanced methodologies like machine learning and modern equipment to analyze zooplankton, aiming to develop algal ecosystems and combat microplastic pollution. Collaborating with international experts, he is also proposing an early biological warning system to monitor aquatic ecosystems.
The research aims to apply advanced methods such as machine learning alongside modern equipment to focus on the study and analysis of zooplankton, thereby developing algal ecosystems and combating microplastic pollution. The young scientist from the UD collaborates with partner experts to propose a biological early warning system to support monitoring of aquatic ecosystems.
According to Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Dang Mau, “Rotifers in freshwater ecosystems are under-researched in Southeast Asia. Through my research on the diversity and biological role of zooplankton, I hope to deliver practical outcomes that contribute to environmental protection in aquaculture and support sustainable development”.

Meanwhile, Dr. Bui Thi Thanh Dieu is participating in the Visiting Scholar Program at Texas State University, focusing on social sciences and humanities. Her research assesses students' mental health conditions and help-seeking behaviors, aiming to propose professional solutions to address mental health issues.
Through academic conferences, seminars, and exchanges at Texas State University, Dr. Dieu has gained opportunities to advance her research, publish in international journals (WoS/Scopus), and connect with global academic networks interested in pressing issues in school education. She hopes her findings will contribute to the establishment of a mental health support system in Vietnam in the near future.

Students embrace global integration with a passion for innovation
In line with international academic exchanges, the Vietnam-Korea University of Information and Communication Technology (VKU) - UD, has actively connected with Korean organizations like Hanwha Life and the ChildFund Foundation (CFK) to select 20 outstanding students for the “2024 Korean Invitational Program.”
According to VKU Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Huynh Cong Phap, this program marks a milestone in promoting international student exchange and integration, especially in key sectors such as semiconductors and financial technology (Fintech).
The practical support from Hanwha Life and CFK has provided VKU students with opportunities to visit, experience, and learn from experts at prestigious universities and enterprises in South Korea. This program highlights efforts to nurture and train young talent in line with fields with strong growth potential in Vietnam, such as Information Technology and Financial Technology. VKU has formalized partnerships with Hanwha Life, CFK, and Daehong to further these initiatives.

One of the program's standout activities is the development of AI application ideas in Financial Technology and Healthcare (Idealthon - AI Applied in Fintech and Healthcare), involving four student teams from VKU. According to representatives from the South Korean organizers, the projects presented by the UD students demonstrated significant potential and creative thinking, proposing innovative and feasible solutions to practical challenges.
Project "SmartF" aims to solve smart consumption challenges among youth; "One for Life" monitors and provides counseling to improve healthy living habits; "MindMate" offers smart solutions for mental and psychological health care; and "SymAI" develops applications to assist with intelligent disease diagnosis…
In recent years, the international academic exchange activities at the UD have flourished, showing positive and dynamic progress towards integration and sustainable development. These activities have not only provided opportunities for lecturers and students to gain international experience, collaborate, and develop their professional skills at a global level, but they have also enhanced research capabilities, contributing to solving scientific and practical issues, increasing the university's international reputation and accelerating the process of internationalizing higher education.
