On November 16, 2024, at Trung Vuong Theater, the University of Danang (UD) solemnly held the 30th anniversary ceremony of its establishment and development (1994-2024). 30 years ago, with a strategic vision, on April 4, 1994, the Government issued Decree No. 32/CP to establish the UD on the basis of organizing and arranging educational institutions in Quang Nam - Danang province at that time.

Delivering the commemorative speech at the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu - President of the UD, warmly welcomed and sincerely thanked the attention, guidance, encouragement and valuable support of the leaders of the Party, Government, National Assembly, ministries, central branches, localities, especially the Ministry of Education and Training and Danang City; honored and expressed gratitude to the generations of seniors who paved the way; leaders, teachers, staff members and students of the UD and its member universities who devoted their intelligence and enthusiasm to the cause of building and developing the UD to have the reputation it has today.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nguyen Ngoc Vu expressed that 30 years of building and developing the UD has been a journey with many difficulties and challenges but also a very proud one. This is an opportunity for generations of lecturers and students of the UD to review the memories of an unforgettable time, full of hardships and challenges but also full of joy and pride; an opportunity to reflect on what has been done yesterday, is being done today and will be done in the future.

The UD’s President said that, promoting the nearly 50-year training tradition of member universities, inheriting the advantage of being located in Danang city, a dynamic and livable city, the UD has achieved important and proud achievements in all aspects.

Regarding staff organization, the UD has developed and perfected the system and mechanism of a two-level regional university with 6 member universities, 1 affiliated school and 3 affiliated training units along with institutes, faculties, research centers; developed a strong team in both quantity and quality with more than 2,600 staff (the proportion of lecturers with PhD degrees or higher reaches nearly 50%, compared to the national average of about 32%), in which University of Science and Technology has the highest rate of over 70%.

Regarding training and quality assurance, over the past 30 years, the UD has trained hundreds of thousands of technology engineers, managers, teachers and language experts, scientists and businessmen for the country. Many alumni have become key leaders in departments, ministries, branches, central and local agencies, leading scientists, talented managers in agencies and enterprises.

The UD has strongly developed its scale and training majors with 136 undergraduate majors, 48 ​​master's majors and 32 doctoral majors (including 28 advanced, high-quality programs, 8 English-taught training programs), currently with a top scale in the country with nearly 65,000 students and trainees. The UD ranks 3rd in the country with 95 programs accredited and meeting domestic and international standards. University of Science and Technology is one of the first four universities in Vietnam to meet HCERES international quality standards (Europe). Continuously over the past years, the UD has been evaluated and ranked among the top universities in Vietnam, ranked by QS in the top 401-500 best universities in Asia.

Regarding scientific research and international cooperation, the number of international publications by scientists and lecturers has increased rapidly (an average increase of over 35% per year) with more than 500 articles/year in prestigious journals (WoS/Scopus); dozens of patents; thousands of scientific and technological topics at all levels have been implemented and effectively applied and transferred into practice. Staff, lecturers and students of the UD have won many awards and outstanding achievements with projects and products that bring practical benefits to socio-economic development, environmental protection and community service.

Up to now, the UD has established extensive cooperative relationships with over 250 universities, research institutes and prestigious organizations around the world; is an active member to make effective contributions to international educational and scientific organizations such as: ASEAN – European Academic University Network (ASEA-UNINET); Francophone Universities Association (AUF); ULYSSEUS Universities Alliance.

With many sources from the state budget, investment savings for development and mobilizing social resources and international projects, the UD regularly invests, builds, upgrades, and renovates facilities, serves training and scientific research, and operation  for member universities and affiliated units; presides over and participates in many international projects; organizes many big international conferences and seminars, contributing to affirming its prestige and leading position domestically and internationally.

The UD’s President summarized the values, experiences and valuable lessons, which are the lessons of the tradition of solidarity, the tireless efforts of many generations in the entire UD to create strength and great achievements. These are lessons of profound practical significance, valuable provisions to continue to accompany the UD to develop to new heights in the journey ahead.

With its enormous contributions to the cause of industrialization and modernization of the country in general and the cause of education and training in particular, the UD has been honored to receive noble awards from the Party and the State.

Entering a new stage of development, in the context of the digital age and international integration, to be worthy of being a key regional university, playing a key role in training high-quality human resources to serve the cause of socio-economic development of the Central Highlands region in particular and the whole country in general, the UD’s President said that the UD continues to be highly determined, making great efforts to focus on implementing key solutions and tasks, which are:

First, continue to perfect the advanced university governance system, implement university autonomy, mobilize resources of the entire university to realize the key goal in the Development Strategy of making the UD a national university; planning, arranging, and developing new member units: International University (on the basis of the VN-UK Institute for Research and Executive Education); University of Medicine and Pharmacy (on the basis of the School of Medicine and Pharmacy); effectively organize the apparatus and personnel, continuously improve the capacity and qualifications of teaching - research and management staff at all levels, attract more prestigious scientists, experts and international students to study and research.

Second, continuously update and innovate content, programs, teaching methods, proactively open new training majors to meet the requirements of the labor market in the context of the digital age and international integration, especially majors such as information technology, artificial intelligence, semiconductor chips, financial technology (Fintech)....; develop English-taught training programs, cooperate with prestigious universities in the world, recognize each other's credits and grant degrees, create conditions for students to study abroad, integrate in a multicultural environment; Continue to focus on quality assurance, university accreditation and training programs that meet national and international standards.

Third, promote scientific research, innovation, help students develop research capacity and self-study right from the first year; build research groups, promote domestic and international academic exchanges to increase international publications; Develop applied research, be ready to participate in solving technical and technological problems arising in production and life; proactively participate in activities and projects to build Da Nang into a smart city, a center for innovation, startups, and a destination for international events.

Fourth, well implement the orientations of connection to contribute to improving the quality of training, scientific research and international integration: strengthen connection with high schools on STEM education and foreign languages ​​to improve input quality; Promote cooperation with enterprises; expand international cooperation to mobilize more resources for development and international integration; focus on relations with ministries, branches and localities to proactively grasp the needs of human resources to build training strategies.

Fifth, continue to invest, exploit and effectively use facilities to improve the quality of training and scientific research; mobilize all resources to successfully implement the UD Urban Area Project in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc. This is a very important task, of strategic significance for the long-term development of the UD.

Sixth, implement democracy, publicity and transparency; promote the role of mass organizations in building a united bloc under the comprehensive leadership of the Party. Continuously improve the material and spiritual life of officials and staff members, build a healthy, friendly and humane cultural environment,...

At the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Kim Son - Member of the Party Central Committee, Minister of Education and Training delivered an important speech, acknowledging, appreciating and congratulating the outstanding achievements and results of the UD over the past 30 years.

Highlighting the mission and outstanding achievements in training high-quality human resources, scientific research and technology transfer to serve the development of the region and the country, Minister Nguyen Kim Son affirmed the significance of the milestone, the policy of establishing the UD - a regional university in the Central region is a correct and wise decision.

Highly appreciating the comprehensive and important results of the UD in all aspects of work from staff organization and development, facilities, governance innovation and university autonomy, training, quality assurance and scientific research, international integration and cooperation, actively contributing to the development of localities, the education sector as well as the country, and being honored to receive many noble awards from the Party and the State, the Minister of Education and Training respectfully acknowledged, praised, highly appreciated and thanked generations of lecturers and students of the UD for joining hands to create great achievements, prestige and position, creating an important premise for the UD to enter the development stage ahead.

The UD needs to promote national advantages, regional advantages, especially the opportunities and potentials of Danang city, closely following the policies and orientations of the Party and the State to develop to be worthy of being one of the key educational institutions of the country and the Central Highlands region; attract leading experts, scientists, talented people and excellent students with the ability to lead in the academic community, creating the best conditions to contribute to the country.

The Minister emphasized the focus on the task of accelerating the progress of the UD construction project in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc because a modern, smart university urban area on par with the region will help expand space, making room for educational and training innovations and great visions and aspirations.

At the ceremony, representatives of the UD received the Certificate of Merit from the Minister of Education and Training (Decision No. 3453/QD-BGDDT) for its outstanding achievements in the process of construction and development; Certificate of Merit from the Chairman of the People's Committee of Danang City (Decision No. 2275), the Chairmen of the People's Committees of the provinces: Quang Nam (Decision No. 2433), Kon Tum (Decision No. 556), Daklak (Decision No. 2861) for its many contributions and outstanding achievements in human resource training, contributing to the socio-economic development of the provinces and cities on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of its establishment (1994-2024).

The Minister of Education and Training awarded Certificates of Merit (Decision No. 3453/QD-BGDDT) to 16 groups and 30 individuals of the UD for their outstanding achievements in contributing to the construction and development of university. The President of the UD awarded Certificates of Merit (Decision No. 4585/QD-DHDN) to 12 groups and 27 individuals for their achievements on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the construction and development of the UD.
