10 highlights of The University of Danang in 2021

1. The ODA project of The University of Danang (UD) funded by the World Bank was approved by the State President

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc signed the Decision No. 2344/QĐ-CTN on December 17, 2021 to approve the Vietnam University Development Project for the UD, together with Vietnam National University - Hanoi and Vietnam National University - Ho Chi Minh City, with ODA capital source from the World Bank (100 million USD for each university) to invest in building technical infrastructure and urgent works for the UD Urban Area in Hoa Quy - Dien Ngoc.

2. Establishment of the UD’s Council for the term 2021-2026

The UD’s Council and the Councils of its member universities for the term 2021 - 2026 were established in accordance with the amended Law on Higher Education. This is an important step to perfect the UD’s organizational structure and a basis for the UD and its member universities to exercise the autonomy.

3. Issuance of several ​important documents to create a legal corridor for the operation and administration of the UD

The UD promulgated a number of important documents to create a legal corridor in operating all activities of the UD in accordance with the decentralization of the regional university model, specifically: regulation on organization and operation of the UD, regulation on finance, regulation on appointment of leaders and managing officials, regulation on grassroots democracy,... The UD’s member universities will develop and set out their development strategy, regulation on organization and operation, internal expenditure regulation, etc.

4. Successful university enrollment in 2021

In the context of difficulties for university enrollment, especially the significant impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, the UD continued to have a successful university enrollment season, ensured the admission quality with many majors having top high entrance requirements in the country.

This achievement created more confidence and excitement, served as an important premise that contributes to improving the training quality, at the same time affirming the UD’s position as a prestigious and reliable training center.

5. Promotion of digital transformation to ensure flexible and safe adaptation to the Covid-19 pandemic

Overcoming difficulties in the condition of social distancing, the UD has strictly implemented regulations and measures to prevent and control the pandemic; Actively promoted the application of information technology and digital transformation; Implemented virtual activities (teaching – studying - testing, thesis defense; scientific conferences and seminars, signing of cooperation agreements,...)  in a flexible and effective manner.

A number of activities were conducted virtually.

6. Quality assurance continued to be improved

The UD continued to ensure the conditions to improve training quality, specifically: The percentage of lecturers with doctorate degrees increased rapidly and reached 42% (up 5% compared to 2020), especially this percentage of University of Science and Technology - UD reached nearly 67%; Training facilities were invested in a synchronous and modern manner; 4 training programs were accredited by the international standard (AUN-QA), 3 training programs were accredited by the national standards, bringing the total number of the UD’s quality accredited training programs to 31 including 28 ones meeting international standards.

7. Establishment of School of National Defense and Security Education - UD

The School of National Defense and Security Education - UD was established and officially put into operation. This is a landmark of autonomy in training and granting the certificates of National Defense Education to students, creating more financial resources, contributing to improving the prestige and position of the UD. In addition, the UD and its member universities have established new faculties, institutes and centers to meet development requirements.

8. Staff members and students of the UD won many excellent awards in scientific research

The UD has carried out nearly 230 science - technology topics at all levels, published more than 450 research works in prestigious international journals (WoS, Scopus), up 14% compared to the previous year. The UD’s staff members and students have won many prestigious science - technology awards. The university successfully researched, created, applied and transfered many useful scientific and technological projects to timely serve the community, especially products to support the prevention of Covid-19 pandemic.

9. The Journal of Science and Technology - UD was enlisted in the Southeast Asian Citation System (ACI)

The Journal of Science and Technology - UD was enlisted in the Southeast Asian Citation Index (ACI) and was increased to 1.25 points in the five Councils of Professors under the State Council of Professors.

The ACI connects the National Citation Index (NCI) with world-renowned scientific databases (WoS, Scopus). This is an important event to help the UD’s Journal gain a new position to reach out to the world, contributing to enhancing the international reputation of the university.

10. The UD and its member universities received Labor Medals

The President of the Lao PDR awarded 2 Third Class Labor Medals to the UD and University of Science and Education – UD respectively for achievements in training human resources for Laos, thereby promoting educational cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

The President of Vietnam awarded the Third Class Labor Medal to the University of Foreign Language Studies - UD; A number of its departments and individuals have been awarded noble emulation forms.
